ഇന്ന് ചന്ദ്രന് ഭൂമിയില് നിന്ന് വെറും 356577 കിലോമീറ്റര് അകലെ എത്തുന്നു. അതും കഴിഞ്ഞ 18 വര്ഷങ്ങളെ വച്ച് നോക്കുമ്പോള് ഏറ്റവും അടുത്ത്. സാധാരണ നമ്മള് കാണുന്ന ചന്ദ്രനേക്കാള് 7600 കിലോമീറ്റര് അടുത്ത്. അത് മാത്രമല്ല സാധാരണയേക്കാള് 14 % വലിപ്പത്തിലും. ഈ വലിപ്പം കാരണമാണ് ഈ പ്രതിഭാസത്തിനെ "സുപ്പര് മൂണ്" എന്ന് പറയുന്നത്.
